Description
A vintage handmade quilt that has been block printed with natural dyes on both sides. Kantha is a prominent form of embroidery consisting of running stitches, and is often practiced by rural women in east Asia, especially in India and Bangladesh. These vintage Kantha quilts are produced with 2-5 layers recycled of vintage cotton saris These layers are covered with the kantha stitches and sometimes embellished with more embroidery. The origin of kantha quilts can be traced to some very resourceful women centuries ago who up-cycled parts of their old cotton saris and dhotis to make much needed blankets. The best aspects of these vintage Kantha quilts are the patches and uneven threads that give them their unique character. They’re also a beautiful way of preserving history.
